Startups Drive Economies and Future Employment Growth

| Start-ups

starting upResearch by the Kauffman Foundation has just shown that ALL net job growth in the US over the last 30 years was created by businesses less than 5 years old. Let me repeat that: ALL net job growth. ALL. Governments and analysts used to think that small businesses generated most net employment growth. They measure small businesses as those with less than 500 employees. 500??? Come on guys! I guess that could look like a small business if you’re GE. But if you’re any regular startup or entrepreneur on the planet a small business is – well small. certainly less than 50 employees. Today unemployment is the number 1 economic issue for all developed economies. But world leaders are still a little foggy about what to do to change this. It’s easy dudes – invest in coaching, developing, supporting, enabling and even funding startups. Todays and tomorrows startups. The reality is that starting up is hard and entrepreneurs need help – even from our large, big business focused, somewhat un-innovative governments. Governments should create a department that focuses exclusively on businesses that are less than 5 years old and have less than 50 employees. Separate from small business departments or general business functions. A department that specializes in nurturing and developing innovation and entrepreneurs. Tomorrows cool companies. A department that makes it easier to start businesses. That makes sure the infrastructure to support entrepreneurship is in place right from nursery school all the way through college, apprenticeship and interns out to starting up. That has a startup strategy. A government that changes the culture of its country so that the entrepreneur is its champion – not the big company CEO. A nation that celebrates entrepreneurs as much as football players. That applauds their successes and their failures – and shares the ride. A government that provides funding for startups and real innovation – not for bankers and their bonuses. A government that makes sure that its institutions and leaders listen to entrepreneurs, their people and their causes. A government that supports leading entrepreneur groups and helps them to lobby better. A government that gets that businesses less than 5 years old are their country’s future and the employer of tomorrow. A government that once and for all understands that small really is beautiful and big is not. Given the last 2 years of big bank, big company, big bang you would have thought they’d get it by now. Not without our help. If you are an entrepreneur, anywhere,  feel free to join our cause. Unite at Innovatrs.net and perhaps together we can make them listen. 2 heads are greater than one – imagine what 2,000 could do.
